Art Spore is a conceptual project aimed at disrupting traditional art institutions and democratizing access to art. This ambitious initiative transforms any city into an open-air gallery, seamlessly integrating art into the urban landscape and making it accessible to everyone with a cellphone.

The project's goal is to create a cohesive experience that engages both artists and city ihabitants, fostering a deeper connection to the local art scene while activating public spaces.

SYMBIOSIS

Our journey with Art Spore began with extensive research into nature, focusing on symbiosis and network structures. This concept mirrors the interaction between artists and audiences, highlighting the mutual dependence essential for a thriving local art ecosystem. A particularly intriguing example of symbiosis is lichens—complex organisms formed through a partnership between a fungus, which absorbs minerals and water, and an alga that provides nourishment.

The Spores

BIOMIMICRY AS A DESIGN MODEL
Drawing inspiration from the shapes and movements of lichens, we mean to collaborate with local artists to create a series of physical sculptures / art objects (SPORES). These sculptures are strategically placed throughout the city, serving as focal points linked to a virtual art network. Designed to be both eye-catching and engaging, the SPORES are meant to attract attention and spark curiosity.

THE PORTAL
Each SPORE features a QR code that directs users to a web portal. This portal provides access to a roster of local artists, their virtual solo exhibitions, biographies, and often facilitates direct purchases of their artworks.

The Brand

VISIBILITY
Our branding collateral uses vibrant, bold shapes that stand out against the urban backdrop, reflecting the design of the SPORE sculptures and creating a cohesive visual language.

SPORE MAPPING
The app is the centerpiece of the project, offering an engaging and interactive AR/UI/UX experience. It features a virtual map intricately linked to physical art hubs throughout the city. The map serves as a comprehensive guide, highlighting every artist and their events within San Francisco.

ACCESS
Artists across the city can mark their locations on the map, share studio hours, and provide information about events or exhibitions. This system simplifies the process of finding art events and eliminates the need to consult multiple sources. The open-air gallery format allows art enthusiasts to plan visits in advance or attend spontaneously.

The Impact

ECONOMY
Art Spore enriches the city's cultural capital and supports the economic well-being of its artists. It provides a platform  to gain visibility and reach a broader audience (pedestrians and culture seekers), enhancing their economic stability by increasing opportunities for their work to be sold and appreciated.

EDUCATION
The project also offers educational value, providing the public with deeper insights into the art world in their own city and the creative processes of local artists. By activating downtown and other public spaces, we have revitalized these areas, making them vibrant and engaging for both residents and visitors.

TRANSFORMATION
This model sets a new standard for how art can be experienced and appreciated in urban environments. By democratizing access, we aim to create a city where art is integrated into everyday life, fostering a culture of awareness and appreciation for the local artist community.
